About Us

xIn 1880, tall ship sea captain Charles Wheeler hired Charles G. Larson, a young Swedish immigrant who became a dedicated, hardworking farm manager. Captain Wheeler passed the farm onto the young Swede who later, in turn, passed the farm to his son, Charles W. Larson, father of Wheeler Farm Gardens’ owner and manager, William Larson.

Bill and wife Evelyn have been in the greenhouse and garden center business since 1968 and have retained the "Wheeler" name out of respect for the Captain and an ongoing dedication to preserving the same level of quality and service that has been firmly planted at Wheeler Farm for over a century.

Wheeler Farm Gardens has developed a reputation in central Connecticut for superb quality Alpine hanging baskets. Some customers drive some distance to purchase them. We are the major online retail supplier of Alpine geraniums in the United States. Many customers remark that people knock on their door to ask the identity of the Alpine geranium plants.
